Our Campus Founded in 1882 as a mission of Christ Church - Rockville, Ascension is the oldest church in Gaithersburg. As Gaithersburg grew (now the largest city in Montgomery county), so did Ascension. The modern brick sanctuary was built in 1982, followed a decade later by the education/administration building. Ascension Chapel, our historic home on this corner, underwent a major renovation beginning in the late 1990's. This newly refurbished building was put backinto service in 2003 and added much needed worship and meeting space for our growing congregation. We offer a variety of services in this historic space, from small weddings and funerals to Sunday morning worship for as many as 100 people. In 2000, Ascension reacquired a large Victorian home across the street that had once served as our parish hall. Today, Ascension House is home during the week to a variety of outreach programs, including MobileMed, which provides physician's care for uninsured clients, and the G-SHARP Program for students from Gaithersburg High School. On Sundays, the old house rocks with the sound of children and youth who gather there for Sunday School classes and Sunday evening youth group meetings.
